Art provides a lens through which to explore all aspects of society--from urban food production, climate policy, watershed management, and transportation infrastructure to childhood education and clothing design--from an ecological perspective. Arts can speak to emotion as well as to reason in finding new ways to articulate the richness and diversity of relationship between people and their environment. The art and environment Expo provided a special opportunity for students to share their work with students, university administrators, the public and others. It provides a unique milieu for discovering opportunities for collaboration, sharing ideas and insights, and making acquaintances that may live long beyond the careers of the individual participants.

Zetech University was the 1st university to host the event on 3rd June 2016. The objective was to use art to tell environmental stories and invoke environmental consciousness. “Environmental Art” is an umbrella term for a wide range of work that helps improve our relationship with the natural world. Art provides a lens through which to explore all aspects of society--from urban food production, climate policy, watershed management, and transportation infrastructure to childhood education and clothing design--from an ecological perspective

Theme: Human activity and environment

Human beings compete with other living things for resources and space. As the world’s population continues to increase, and standards of living improve, there is serious danger of a permanent change to the global environment.

Human activities have led to the pollution of the environment, and a reduction in the amount of land available for other animals and plants, which makes it difficult for some species to survive. There is a need to achieve a level of development that also sustains the environment for future generations.

1 Theme: Wildlife and transport

We need to establish the ‘green corridor’ (the land around the railway – is often home to a richly diverse variety of species, as it is relatively undisturbed.)This means that Prior to starting a project, ecological surveys are carried out on our land to help us identify the animals, insects and plants in the area that will be affected. This means we can plan the best time of the year for work – by avoiding nesting seasons. Simply means that one should undertake an EIA which should be holistic.

Theme.Ocean and Human activities

We need the ocean for food, jobs, transportation, fun, recreation and other resources. Human activity can affect the ocean and the creatures that live in it in many different ways. Our activities can affect our oceans in many ways but the three main ways are:

1. Harvesting sea foods

2. The impacts from our activities on land.

3. The introduction of marine pests.

4 Theme: Energy and the environment

Unsustainable patterns of energy production and consumption threaten not only human health and quality of life but also affect ecosystems and contribute to climate change. Sustainable energy, therefore, can be an engine for poverty reduction, social progress, equity, enhanced resilience, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. Renewable energy solutions can yield important social, economic and environmental benefits, such as removing pressure on important ecosystems and allowing countries’ electrical grids to be stable and reliable engines of economic growth.
Renewable energy holds considerable potential for advancing human development. Energy from renewable sources – water, wind, the sun and biomass, among others – can facilitate access to clean and safe energy for millions of people.
