Art and Environment Event at University of Nairobi on 29th July 2016

University of Nairobi will be the 5th university to host the art and environment expo. Main organizer for the art and environment event is environment 254. Environment 254 is an open community platform for game changers in the social and environment arena.

It is an opportunity for University of Nairobi Students to show case their artistic skills. The art and environment event provides a special opportunity for students to share their work with students, university administrators, the public and others. It provides a unique milieu for discovering opportunities for collaboration, sharing ideas and insights, and making acquaintances that may live long beyond the careers of the individual participants.

Environmental art improves our relationship with nature since it educates us about environmental problem. “Environmental Art” is an umbrella term for a wide range of work that helps improve our relationship with the natural world. Art provides a lens through which to explore all aspects of society--from urban food production, climate policy, watershed management, and transportation infrastructure to childhood education and clothing design--from an ecological perspective.

Caren who is Environment 254 Ambassador, believes that when explaining environmental concept with art pieces it is easy for people to relate with and comprehend the message.

The art  and Environment Event has attracted international visitor from other countries. At JKUAT we were joined by an international Environmental Artist by the name Yootab, who show cased her art pieces.

In the University of Nairobi apart from the Art and Environment Expo, we will be having a free Hug Campaign which is just a sign of kindness .Sharon, who is the team Leader in the Free Hug Campaign believe that the Free Hugs Campaign is  meant to be random acts of kindness selfless acts performed just to make others feel better.

The event will start from 11am till 5pm. 

University of Nairobi Geography student society led by John who is the Chairman,, believes that this event will be a game changer to the club since it will invoke environmental consciousness among the students.
